Huawei Mate 20 Pro suffers a green glow

Over time, the modern OLED-display begins to show a green glow. Is it a marriage or a technological feature? More recently, Huawei introduced an updated line of phablets. The older model Mate 20 Pro is equipped with an OLED-matrix, bent at the edges. Modern display with 2K resolution looks great in real life, but the first buyers of new items drew attention to the unpleasant feature.

Reportedly, some instances of the Mate 20 Pro suffer from a green tint around the edges of the screen. The effect manifests itself in varying degrees: from barely noticeable strips along curved edges to a clearly visible green glow around the perimeter of the matrix. Some users claim that the problem does not appear immediately but after a few days. It is also known that in Mate 20 Pro there are matrices from two suppliers LG Display and BOE, and the problem is found only in displays from a Korean company.

The representative of Huawei expressed his personal opinion about what is happening on the company’s official forum:

The Mate 20 Pro uses industry-leading, flexible OLED screen with specially designed curved edges to expand the visual space and enhance grip ease. This may cause slight color changes when viewed from different angles. In low light conditions and when the screen brightness is also too low, or when using dark background images, this difference may look too strong. If color distortions of colors interfere with normal use, take the smartphone to an authorized service center.

While it is not known for certain what is the cause of the ill-starred glow. It is possible that the problem is in the glue that connects the display sandwich into a single module. If this is the case, the body overheating can act as a kind of catalyst. This version is confirmed by the fact that, according to the victims, the green glow increases with time.

Recall that the problems with the OLED-matrices from LG Display are not the first time. A similar matrix installed in Pixel 2 XL suffered from flicker and premature burnout. As a result, Google’s flagship was notorious, and with the release of Pixel 3 XL, the company switched to displays from Samsung.
