The developers have published Changelog 19, in which they told about the latest changes in the project. And suddenly – Lineage Recovery.
The team of developers of the project LineageOS, the most popular custom Android-firmware, published the current list of changes from July 2018. Changelog 19 introduces such innovations as the improvement of some functions, the newly supported devices and, most importantly, its own custom recovery Lineage Recovery. In addition to all, a change in management was announced as part of one of the company’s directors.
In the Settings application, a new Trust interface has appeared that allows you to configure all LineageOS privacy and security features from one location, including the Privacy Guard management system. The data switch now displays usage statistics, as in LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1 Nougat). Among other minor improvements: the July Android security patch, customizable signal icons, optional black interface design and an improved update section.
Perhaps the most unexpected announcement of LineageOS in Changelog 19 was the development of its own custom recovery (recovery mode) by analogy with TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) – Lineage Recovery.
The new Lineage Recovery supports both A / B devices and non-A / B devices. It is based on AOSP-recovery but offers many improvements needed for users of custom firmware. According to developers, the recovery mode of LineageOS is simple and safe: SELinux is in compulsory mode, limiting the capabilities of each process. Lineage Recovery will be installed by default for all A / B devices based on lineage.
Change of leadership
From Changelog 19 it became known that one of the nine directors of the project LineageOS resigned. Abhishek Devkota, better known as the nickname “ciwrl”, worked for almost 9 years on the previous firmware CyanogenMod and after rebranding – on LineageOS. Following the vote, his position will be taken by Kevin Haggerty, known on the XDA-Developers portal as “haggertk”.
16 smartphones from different manufacturers received support for LineageOS 15.1, based on the latest version of the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.
